October 1, 1929 -There were three grain companies in Assumption Illinois: Assumption Elevator Company, Farmers Grain Company and LaCharite Grain Company.  1934, loading rail car
September 28, 1934 - In an effort to secure the greatest return for the local farmers grain and to foster a competitive market, the Assumption Cooperative Grain Company was formed.  An original investment of a $1,000 note secured by fourteen farmers, was used to purchase a set of scales and thirteen scoop shovels.

1935 - A lease was obtained on property from the Illinois Central Railway property on which the Coop erected an office and a 10,000 bushel elevator.   A March 31 inventory of the new cooperative revealed an inventory of 880 bushels of corn valued at $.73 per bushel and 38 bushels of soybeans valued at $1.10 per bushel. 1935, Assumption Coop office
1937 - The business grew much faster than anticipated and it was necessary to build another 16,000 bushels of storage.                               Top of Page 1937, Assumption Coop
1930-1945 - World War II
1943 - The Company builds two concrete storage tanks with a capacity of 42,000 bushels. 
1944 - The company purchases the Farmers Grain Company and the LaCharite Grain Company.  This brings the cooperative's total grain capacity to 197,000 bushels. 
1945 - World's first Atomic weapon is used in Hiroshima Japan. The Assumption Cooperative
1946 - The computer is born on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
1949 - 25,000 bushel concrete storage tanks were constructed making for a total capacity of 297,000 bushels, the largest country grain storage in the state at the time.
1950-1953 - Korean War.
1956 - The Company installed a dryer and added a 250,000 bushel concrete elevator, along with purchasing the south elevator.

1949 Assumption Coop
1957 - USSR launch's Sputnik 1, mankind's first space vehicle. The Assumption Cooperative - South Office
1959 - An additional 250,000 bushel concrete annex and office were constructed. 1959, Assumption Coop
1959-1973 - Vietnam War. The Assumption Cooperative - New Office, 1959
1961 - USSR launches first manned space flight.
1963 - A seed cleaner and warehouse are constructed 1963, Assumption Coop seed cleaner
1964 - An additional dryer is added.  Top of Page
1966 - A concrete annex and flat storage are constructed, adding 500,000 bushels in storage.
1967 - A third dryer is added
1969 - US puts the first man on the moon.

1968

- The Farm Supply Store on Rt. 51 is purchased. 1969, Assumption Coop farm store

1969

- Dunkel Elevator is purchased. 1969, Dunkel Facility

1972

- Three concrete tanks, with 375,000 bushels in capacity, are added to the Assumption facility.
