A Timeline of Growth

1976
  • Expansion again at the Assumption facility, adding 375,000 bushels in storage.
1978
  • A Zimmerman dryer is installed.
1982
  • 140,000 bushels in concrete storage are added to the Assumption facility.
1983
  • 1983, Westervelt Facility350,000 bushels in storage are added to the Dunkel facility.
  • The Westervelt elevator is purchased from Ralston Purina.
1985
  • Purchased the Pana, Owaneco and Millersville facilities from Growmark, adding over 1.6 million bushels of storage to the company.     

  • Acquired the assets and stock of Mid-Illinois Farmers Cooperative through merger, adding many new patron-stockholders to the Assumption Coop. family.

  • Initiated the joint venture of Cental Illinois Shippers by purchasing the Assumption to Decatur portion of the Illinois Central Railroad.

1986
  • BAssumption Coop Pana Facilityuilt 2 concrete tanks at the Pana facility, adding 500,000 bushels of storage.
1987
  • Erected a 100,000 bushel GSI grain bin at the Westervelt Facility.
1988
  • Erected 2 Blount Grain Dryers, one at Pana and one at Westervelt.  The Blount dryers are known for their gentle handling of grain, resulting in less stress cracks.
  • Demolished the wood elevator at Westervelt and constructed a new 220,000 bushel capacity elevator, complete with a leg, dumpsite, storage bins, and rail-loading capabilities.
1991
  • Built a new grain receiving area at the Owaneco facility, including 2 pits, 2 legs, and an overhead holding bin, adding 14,000 bushels per hour of handling speed.
1992
  • Added another overhead handling bin to the new Owaneco grain receiving site.
1993
  • Assumption Coop Palmer FacilityAcquired the Palmer facility through merger with the farmers Grain Company of Palmer Illinois.  The acquisition adds 1.8 Million bushels of storage to the Assumption Cooperative as well as access to loading grain on the Norfolk Southern Railroad, as well as many new patron stockholders.
1994
  • Constructed an 815,000 bushel concrete storage site at the Pana facility, complete with load conveyor, unloading conveyor, aeration, and a power generator.
  • Built a fully automated, card operated fuel station on the north edge of Moweaqua.  The station has 30,000 gallons of storage and con dispense three different grades or types of fuels.
1995
  • Built a 130,000 bushel corn tank at the Owaneco facility
  • Erected a 110,000 GSI grain tank at the Westervelt facility, west elevator.
  • Built a 360,000 bushel GSI grain tank at the Pana facility to increase the speed and quantity of the soybean handling system.

1996
  • Installed a 15,000 bushel per hour conveyor system at the Assumption facility, allowing for more efficient loading of the rail holding tanks.
  • Along with 15 other grain cooperatives across the corn belt, formed the Farmers Commodities Transportation Company.  The new company had 1,000 jumbo covered hopper railroad cars manufactured, which were put into a long term lease agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad.  The venture assures our Pana facility adequate access to railroad cars in the future as well as providing Assumption Coop with an additional source of revenue.
1997
  • Installed a 5,000 bushel per hour leg at the soybean pit at the Dunkel facility, greatly increasing the handling speed of customer soybean deliveries.
  • The Assumption Coop. began handling High Oil corn on a direct delivery program.
1998
  • Demolished the wooden soybean elevator at the Owaneco facility.
  • Began handling High Oil corn as a elevator delivered program at the Palmer facility.
  • Began a "premium" program for farmers handling non- GMO soybeans at the Assumption facility.
  • Tore down the wooden bean elevator at the Owaneco facility.

1999
  • On June 1st, a tornado leveled the Westervelt elevator requiring a total rebuild of the facility.  The new facility was built to include 973,000 bushels of storage capacity, 2-10,000 bushel per hour receiving legs, 1-8,000 bushel per hour receiving leg, a 5,000 bushel per hour GSI grain dryer , and a brand new spacious office.
  • Demolished the old fertilizer storage building at the Palmer facility, enhancing the room and the looks of the South elevator area.
2000
  • Constructed a 1,400,000 bushel wood storage bunker at the Pana Facility to handle the large 2000 crop. The bunker will also be used for overflow grain volume in years to come.  
  • Demolished the old feed mill located near the Palmer facility  office.  This increased the "staging" area for trucks to access the scale area, as well as enhancing the appearance of the facility.
2001
  • Built another 360,000 bushel GSI grain tank at the Pana facility, increasing the handling abilities for soybeans during large harvests.
  • Totally remodeled the interior of the Assumption Office, making it brighter, cleaner and more practical for doing business in today's environment.
  • Purchased most of the petroleum assets of Assumption Oil Company, giving Assumption Coop and excellent back-up fuel truck, several good farm fuel tanks, and access to several additional farm fuel customers.
  • Build an additional 360,000 bushel GSI grain tank at the Pana facility to increase the quantity of our soybean handling system.
2002
  • Performed a total upgrade of our card operated fuel stations in Assumption, including a new magnetic stripe card reader system and new pumps.
  • Built an additional grain receiving area at the Assumption elevator including a 1000+ bushel dump pit, and a 15,000 bushel per hour leg.  The addition of this pit and leg will greatly enhance the handling speed and reduce the truck congestion for corn during the harvest season.

2003
  • Re-branded our Petroleum operations from Farmland to Cenex.  Cenex Fuels and Lubricants are manufactured above specifications for normal wear and tear - they are designed for hard working farm equipment.

  • Resurfaced the driveway at the Pana Elevator to eliminate the dust and dirt of rock driveways.

  • Installed rail fall protection in Assumption to make it safer to load railcars.

2004
  • Installed rail fall protection in Pana to make it safer to load railcars.

  • Resurfaced the driveways at the Owaneco Elevator to eliminate dust and dirt as trucks enter the dump pit area.

2005
  • Built a new state-of-the-art Bulk Petroleum Plant on the south edge of Assumption
  • Build two (2) 750,000 bushel GSI bins at the Pana facility, increasing our handling abilities for corn by 1.5 million bushels.
2006
  • Added a 10,000 gallon soy-blend system to our bulk petroleum plant, allowing for bio-diesel blending at any percentage requested by our customers.
  • Completely reconstructed the 1,400,000 bushel wooden storage bunker at Pana, rebuilding it with steel walls and a newly redesigned aeration system.
2007
  • Built a new 750,000 bushel GSI bin at the Palmer Facility.  We also installed a new 5,000 bushel-per-hour leg and conveying system to the north elevator to increase the dumping speed to this new tank.
  • Tore down our two old grain dryers at Pana, and replaced them with a new 5,000 bushel-per-hour Brock dryer and a 15,000 bushel-per-hour wet leg and conveying system.  This will allow for the addition of another dryer in the future.
2008
  • Purchased a new 2007 Freightliner Fuel Truck. The truck is a tandom with a 4,200 gallon aluminum, five compartment tank.
